Nonlinear Dynamics Complex Systems Educational Tools

Hello Complexity Explorers,

Happy April! We hope you are all settling into 2021 and enjoying some lovely Springtime weather (or Autumn depending on your hemisphere). This month we are reaching out to the community with opportunities to help support our Complexity Explorer platform.

Video Layout Preferences Survey

We are in the video-editing phase of a new Complexity Explorer production: A Visual Approach to Nonlinear Dynamics with SFI Professor Sidney Redner. We want to hear from the CE community about what style works best for you in learning the concepts.

Check out two alternative presentations of the same material and vote for your preference. We are also always happy to hear any other suggestions you may have about how content is presented.

We are looking for a part-time teaching assistant for the online courses and tutorials hosted on the Complexity Explorer platform. Duties will include: answering student questions in the online course forums and course email accounts, managing peer review assignment submissions, overseeing subtitle transcript efforts, moderating discord servers, and other administrative tasks.

Time commitment: ~ 10 hours/week

Qualifications

To apply for the position, you must have completed at least 3 Complexity Explorer courses or tutorials. Familiarity with basic professional email protocols, the Complexity Explorer platform, and other web-based programs is required. To qualify you must have a High School diploma.

To Apply

Please submit a CV or resume and statement of interest to teaching.assistants@complexityexplorer.org

Additional Information

As a contract position, the Complexity Explorer TA will be ineligible for SFI employee benefits and the individual is responsible for ensuring that they have health insurance during the term of the agreement. They are responsible for paying any applicable income and/or New Mexico gross receipts tax. As appropriate, SFI will issue a Form 1099-MISC after the end of the year, by January 31. SFI does not provide tax advice; we recommend speaking with a tax advisor regarding tax liability.

Subtitle Volunteers

Many of our course participants have volunteered to subtitle our course videos, and we are always looking for additional volunteers. We hope that together we will eventually be able to create full sets of language subtitles for all of our courses. Doing so will make our Complexity Explorer content even more available to individuals around the world.
